Meet The Neighborhood Linguist!

Hi Community! This is Essence Spencer, Principal Consultant of The Neighborhood Linguist.

Essence is a dedicated professional with over 7 years of experience in the education sector. With a background centered in equity in education, program management, and community building, Essence has honed her expertise in DEIB facilitation, recruitment, hiring, and partnership development. She is a passionate advocate for the power of language, believes in the beauty of authentic expression and ensuring all voices are recognized. Passionate about supporting historically underserved communities, she is committed to fostering transparency and inclusivity in all initiatives.

Essence holds a degree in Critical Race and Ethnic Studies with a focus in Linguistics from The University of California, Santa Cruz, and continues her advocacy work through strategic communication initiatives and inclusivity measures in her current roles.
